Title: "Health, mortality, and earnings in a resource boom: the case of WLEMMAs"

Abstract: Recent research has focused on the worsening health, mortality, and labour market outcomes of white, lower-educated, males, in middle-age (WLEMMAs). We study what happens to this group during the shale oil boom in the United States.  We find that WLEMMAs, particularly those aged 45 to 54, significantly benefited from the recent shale boom with higher employment and earnings, as well as lower poverty, mortality, and disability rates.
