Biography

I am a fiction writer based in Guelph, Ontario. My first novel, In the Field, was the winner of the 2010 Metcalf-Rooke Award and my second, In Search of the Perfect Singing Flamingo, comes out in May 2018 with Wolsak & Wynn. My short fiction has been shortlisted for the Bronwen Wallace Award, the CBC Literary Prizes and the Playboy College Fiction Contest, and has appeared in journals and anthologies such as The New Quarterly, SubTerrain and Best Canadian Short Stories. I am a past fiction editor of PRISM international and ran the audio fiction podcast The Oddments Tray with Chioke I’Anson. I also host the podcast Parallel Careers about the dual lives of writers who teach.
