Transportation Choices on Campus

TRANSPORTATION CHOICES ON CAMPUS

With a large population travelling to and from campus every day, enabling a variety of transportation options is critical for reducing environmental impacts and creating an inclusive and sustainable campus community.

This session will walk attendees through transportation options and resources available on campus related to walking, cycling, public transit, carpooling, carsharing, and electric vehicles. Panelists from the City of Waterloo, DropBike, Enterprise CarShare, and the Region of Waterloo will share information about their programs and services, followed by a moderated question and answer period.

Lastly, employees will be introduced to TravelWise program, including an overview of the gotravelwise platform and other associated benefits for members.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Increase awareness and understanding of various transportation options at the University
  2. Increase awareness and understanding of tools and resources available to University employees, including the University’s membership in the TravelWise program and associated benefits
  3. Identify how employees can integrate sustainable transportation options into their regular commute

Presenter(s)

Mat Thijssen coordinates the University of Waterloo's sustainability efforts in partnership with a broad range of stakeholders on and off campus, and provides support to the President's Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability. He is a member of the Sustainability Advisory Committee for the City of Waterloo, the ClimateActionWR Transportation Sector Committee, and the Ontario College and University Sustainability Professionals. Prior to joining the University of Waterloo, Mat worked for three years with Sustainable Waterloo Region, and has extensive experience presenting on sustainability-related topics, including at past Staff Conferences and employee training workshops.
