UNIVERSITY STRATEGIC PLANNING: LEARNING AND OFFERING YOUR VOICE ON HOW TO HELP STAFF BECOME AND STAY ENGAGED

The University of Waterloo's current Strategic Plan is entering into its final year and we are moving towards the development of the 2020 plan. As a result of attending this workshop, participants will: a) understand the collaborative processes that are used to develop and report on the institutional strategic plan, b) understand how Faculty and academic support units and their respective plans inform and support the institutional plan, and c) offer suggestions for how to improve the communication and engagement process in the next cycle of strategic planning. Lastly, a brief introduction to the planning process for the upcoming 2020 plan will be provided. The session will be divided into 4 main parts, with #2 and #3 including an activity component. Suggested agenda: 1. Participants will be introduced to the institutional strategic plan, including a brief overview of the processes that led to the development of the plan, current status and bridging activities toward the development of the new plan. 2. Participants will have the opportunity to link their activities and/or strategic plans with the university's stated goals and objectives. 3. Participants will offer feedback and suggestions on how to enhance participation, engagement and linkage of their work to the university's strategic goals. 4. Participants will learn how they can be involved in the consultation process for the upcoming 2020 plan. Using a workshop format, the participants will both learn and explore opportunities for engagement as well as offer considerations for the upcoming strategic planning activities.
