Yoga & Mindfulness At Work

YOGA & MINDFULNESS AT WORK

Come out and learn some simple yoga poses that you can do throughout the day to ease tension and stress while seated in your office!

The session will begin with a brief yoga-at-your-desk practice led by Joshua (Kunga) Webster. To close out the session, Kunga will lead participants in a final mindfulness meditation talk & exercise. Attendees will gain an understanding of the purpose of these practices, and the potential far reaching benefits that they can bring, while at the same time getting a little exercise and having fun in the process. We hope to leave you feeling restored, relaxed, and motivated to submit your own SEF wellness proposal. *

No prior yoga or meditation experience is required. No yoga mat or other equipment is required.

* Kathy Becker prepared and submitted a Staff Excellence Fund (SEF) proposal and coordinating the Workplace Yoga Program, which has been offered to UW staff since spring 2017.

Joshua (Kunga) Webster R.Ac has been teaching yoga, meditation and Asian philosophy for over 12 years. He received his yoga certification in 2005 from the Yoga center Winnipeg, and his meditation certification from the Asian Classics Institute in Arizona and NYC in 2003. He teaches in schools, gyms and workplaces as well as his own studio in central KW. He has a passion for health and wellness and loves inspiring people to find their life long practice discipline and fulfill their health and creative potential.

After 10 years in teaching and administration in private and public colleges, Kathy Becker returned home to UWaterloo in 2011. This is where she completed her undergraduate degree in English Literature (BA ’99), but it’s also where she lived when her mature-student parent was in school, and where she attended Arts Computer Camp as a kid. It’s very much like home, which might be why she wants to make campus a better place to be. Kathy is currently the Teaching Development Associate in the Faculty of Engineering’s Teaching portfolio, where she helps to advance the Faculty’s progress toward teaching excellence. In 2017 she took on the additional volunteer role of Workplace Yoga Program (WYP) Coordinator after securing funding for the WYP through the Staff Excellence Fund. Since its launch in spring 2017, the WYP has helped bring the benefits of yoga to more than 100 UWaterloo staff members.
