Today, Ian Rowlands, in collaboration with research partners at Carleton University, had an article published in Renewable Energy.  Entitled, 'Managing Solar-PV Variability With Geographical Dispersion:  An Ontario (Canada) Case-study', it examines the extent to which the broad distribution of solar-PV panels in Ontario might lead to better performance, on a variety of metrics.  The article can be found in Vol. 68, August 2014, pp. 171-180 or here.

Summer 2014 Job Opportunity

The Energy Hub Management System project (energyhub.uwaterloo.ca) is looking for a full-time Community Engagement Analyst (28 April 2014 to 22 August 2014).  This job opportunity is being concurrently offered through the University of Waterloo's co-operative education system and through this 'open posting'.  Full details may be found here.

Prof. Paul Parker recently returned from Oklahoma, where he gave a series of three lectures at the University of Oklahoma.  Two were for students taking a course on 'Sustainability and Global Environmental Change', and were entitled, 'Sustainability Macro Solutions:  Policies and Technology', and 'Sustainability Micro Solutions:  Information, Incentives and Action'. The other was a public lecture, entitled, 'How to Turn Sustainability Research into Practice:  Reducing Carbon in Electricity and Saving Water'.

Sustainable Energy Policy at the University of Waterloo has launched a twitter account.  @SEPuWaterloo is intended to be a means of communicating our research group's activities with like-minded individuals, both with uWaterloo and beyond; additionally, it will be a means of fostering increased communication and collaboration among our members.

The Faculty of Environment is seeking a post-doctoral fellow (PDF) in Sustainable Energy Policy.  The PDF will join an interdisciplinary, multi-institutional team that is advancing understanding of energy managers' decision-making in a smart grid environment.  Full details may be found here, and the review of applications will begin on 6 September 2013 and continue until the position is filled.

ENV graduate students Nicholas Belanger and Junna Zhao, along with ENV  Professors Ian Rowlands and Paul Parker, will present some of their research findings at the upcoming Annual Workshop of the Ontario Network for Sustainable Energy Policy.

Consumer Engagement in Smart Grids

University of Waterloo Professor Ian Rowlands participated in the SmartGrid Canada's 2012 Conference.  Delivering a presentation entitled, 'Are Canadians Ready for Smart Grids?', Prof. Rowlands reported upon recent Canadian research and compared those results with analogous global developments.
