The music that inspired the mix for Eurydice - curated by sound designer, Dr. Colin Labadie
FIRST MOVEMENT SCENE# SOUND CUE# (i.e. 1.1.1)
1.1.1 Intro music SQ1 inspired by Caberet Contemporain - Map
1.1.2 Orpheus' melody for Eurydice - he needs to sing it, she needs to sing it badly. Also needs to have a rhythm that can be clapped possible inspiration for this song can be:
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes - Home or, possibly inspired by Cabaret Contemporain - Love.
1.2.1 The music the Father imagines when walking Eurydice down the aisle* should, ideally be sung by Orpheus with acoustic guitar.
This could either be the aforementioned Home (lyrics like "Home/let me come home/home is wherever I'm with you") there are actually quite a few lyrics from this that can speak to Orpheus and Eurydice's relationship. There is a more somber song that could also work:
Peter Sarstedt's Where Do You Go To (lyrics like "where do you go to my lovely / when you're alone in your bed/ tell me the thoughts that surround you/ I want to look inside your head"). Another option could be Ohhh La La by The Faces ("I wish that I knew what I know now/when I was younger") But I think I like the upbeat vibe of Home more.
1.3.1 Laughter and revelry at a party; this can also sound like birds flying over an ocean. An example of what I'm thinking is the first four seconds from this clip:
1.3.2 Musty dripping into ambient dark techno; good example found here (below). I'm also interested in exploring his breathing maybe with a mic maybe layered into the sound.
1.4.1 Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree starting at 0:48 seconds of this clip - Orpheus and Eurydice will sing duet.
1.7.1 Brazilian mood music (actually French...!) Francoise Hardy Le Temps de L'Amour:
1.7.2 Le Temps de L'Amour should morph into dripping, dark ambient techno with breathing - the quality of the text in the first minutes of this is also interesting to explore later in this section of the scene: perhaps lines such as:
You need to get yourself a real man. A man with broad shoulders like me. Orpheus has long fingers that would tremble to pet a bull or pluck a bee from a hive and My lips were meant to kiss your eyelids.
1.7.3 Strange sounds of crashing - possible inspiration:
Tropical storm/wind (especially around 37 minutes):
Lead trumpet screaming (4:26-5:06):
Cymbal crash:
Falling from orbit: (this is pretty cool!)
Inspiration for Orpheus's Symphony:
