Ibrahim’s research focuses on the application of transit Automatic vehicle location and Automatic passenger counting (AVL/APC) data for network wide monitoring of the performance of signalized intersections. Transit AVL/APC data contain the time and the location of bus stops, and passenger boarding and alighting statistics, which can be used to approximate the delay and the queues experienced by transit vehicles at signalized intersections. His research compares the intersection performance measures (e.g. delay and queue length) estimated from transit AVL/APC data with the values computed using analytical models and software such as Highway capacity manual (HCM) and Synchro. Transit AVL/APC data provide the opportunity to evaluate intersection performance measures using the data collected over a long period. Thus, it provides more realistic estimates of intersection performance measures.
