Graham Broad is an Associate Professor of History at King’s University College. He is a scholar in the field of war and society studies, studying culture in times of conflict. He is also a guide with the Canadian Battlefields Foundation. With Jonathan Vance he is the co-director of the SSHRC-funded website Wartime Canada, a digital archive of Canadian wartime ephemera. Broad’s most recent book is Part of Life Itself: The War Diary of Lieutenant Leslie Howard Miller, CEF (UTP: 2023).
Held by the family for over a century, Leslie Miller’s war diary, which covers the entirety of the war and the first months of peace, offers fascinating insight into the cultural life of a soldier on the Western Front. Dr. Graham Broad from King's University College, who recently edited Miller’s diary for publication, will discuss the work’s insights and the conflict that can occur when cherished memoires collide with historical reality.
