Students generally participate in three field seminars in their first year and sit their major field exam at the beginning of their second year.

The fields serve to provide you with teachable areas and to advance you on your dissertation research. Because you are able to move through the field completion phase in one year, you can devote the majority of your studies to your own research, teaching, and writing. In this way, the program successfully combines field training within a four-year completion structure without compromising your own research, professional development, or writing.
