Christine’s academic focus centres on United States history, with particular emphasis on cultural developments, gender history, and the role of the celebrity in the 1950s-1970s. Her current research seeks to examine how celebrities, especially musicians, transitioned into roles as political activists, driven by the evolving dynamics of left-wing culture. She will explore the role of gender in this development, analyzing how each individual’s varying access to politics shaped their contributions to activism. Her most recent MA research examines the culture wars that emerged during the Vietnam War, exploring the interplay between a rapidly evolving cultural landscape and the liberal ideologies of the 1960s. Her academic objective is to enhance the accessibility of historical inquiry and to foreground cultural history within broader historical discourse.
