Leveraging his experience as a professional urban planner, Lee's doctoral research investigates urban life in the German Democratic Republic by comparing histories of East and West Berlin between 1945–1989. Lee is particularly interested in understanding the ways the regime attempted to use the urban environment to control and mold citizens, and how those efforts impacted daily life and popular opinion. Lee is a holder of the J. Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship.
