Paul Brewer

PhD Student, Wilfrid Laurier University

Paul Brewer attended the University of Southampton, in England, where he received a B.A. in Classical civilizations in 1981. After working as an editor in book and magazine publishing in London for twenty-five years, he came to Wilfrid Laurier University in 2008 to complete an M.A. in History. He then entered the Ph.D. programme.

His major field is Race, Slavery and Imperialism. His minor fields were Modern U.S. History and Latin American History 1800-1975. His dissertation topic is ‘Disco – An Atlantic Trajectory’, a consideration of the interaction between commerce and culture in the Disco phenomenon. The dissertation is being supervised by David Monod at Wilfrid Laurier.

His main academic interest is in U.S. cultural history, particularly the interaction between American culture, in its widest sense, and its European and African roots.
