Dr. Michelle D. Brock
Michelle D. Brock (Mikki) is an Associate Professor of History at Washington and Lee University where she teaches the histories of Early Modern Europe, the supernatural, and poverty. Her research focuses on religious beliefs and identities in early modern Scotland, including demonology and witchcraft. The title of her conference presentation is, “‘That horrid and devilish sin’: Witchcraft and memory in Covenanted Scotland."
Dr. Brock completed her Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin in 2012. Her first book, Satan and the Scots: The Devil in Post-Reformation Scotland, c.1560-1700, was published in 2016. Her forthcoming book is titled Plagues of the Heart: Crisis and Covenanting in a Seventeenth-Century Scottish Town and will be published by the Manchester University Press.
Dr. Brock is the co-director of an ongoing digital humanities project, Mapping the Scottish Reformation. The project is actively developing a digital database and mapping tool, which is aimed at outlining the careers of the Scottish clergy between 1560 and 1689.
