We have now completed full implementation of all three primary systems in our CFI-X project, including the new ESEM-microXRF system.
The new Thermo Quattro S Environmental SEM, capable of high vacuum, low vacuum and ESEM modes, has been installed in the summer of 2025. Not only is this system unique in its superior imaging and "google-map" like capability of automatic large-area mapping, it is also equipped with a combined EDS and micro XRF system (from Bruker) to provide accurate composition quantification for both high-Z and low-Z elements. This is the only such system in Canada and it will provide unprecedented details in SEM images and elemental quantification of materials near their natural states for a wide range of applications. These data can also be coupled correlatively to other techniques in WATLab, including the surface chemical-state information provided by the advanced Thermo G2 XPS system and the extended-range TOF SIMS system. We are accepting user samples as we standardize our workflow. Please contact WATLab staff for more details.
We wish to take this opportunity to wish everyone a productive and happy New Year of exciting discoveries.
