From 9–11 June 2026, the Università di Napoli L’Orientale hosted the international conference Hermes and the Sciences – Hermès et les Sciences – Ermete e le Scienze. The event brought together more than 30 scholars from ten countries to examine the writings and enduring legacy of the pseudonymous figure Hermes Trismegistus.

The conference revisited many of the themes explored during an earlier meeting on the same subject, held at the same venue in November 2001. Several participants from the original conference also returned for this year’s event.

The conference also marked the launch of a new publication by WIHS Executive Committee member David Porreca, co-authored with University of Waterloo graduates Dan Attrell and Brett Bartlett, together with Italian colleague Matteo Stefani.

The volume, The Latin Hermes in Translation: Asclepius, Glosses on Trismegistus, Book of Six Principles of Things, Book of 24 Philosophers, was published by Brepols as part of the Corpus Christianorum in Translation series.

The conference proceedings will appear in a forthcoming volume of the journal Micrologus. The conference organizers also expressed their gratitude for the financial support provided by the Waterloo Institute for Hellenistic Studies, whose contribution helped make the event possible.
