Laura Bingeman
A second-year student at Waterloo Engineering is the winner of a $5,000 scholarship from an organization that has promoted engineering as a career choice for young women in Canada for more than 25 years.

Laura Bingeman, who is studying systems design engineering, was selected for the award by the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation as an ambassador and role model to further the cause through her example and extracurricular activities.

'Most promising woman'

The Allstream Information and Communication Technology Engineering Award is given annually to the “most promising woman” in that field at the university level. Bingeman will be formally recognized at an awards event in Ottawa in September.

“Encouraging young women to pursue careers in engineering benefits them, sets an example for others and contributes to our country’s technical leadership,” said Michael Strople, an executive with Zayo, the award’s corporate sponsor.
