Volunteering

Women in Engineering hosts many events throughout the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms and are always looking for eager volunteers for both our outreach (youth) and University level events. Volunteers can be current undergraduate or graduate engineering students who identify as women or non-binary. Below you will also find opportunities to join the WiE undergraduate and graduate student committees.

See below for a list of annual youth events we recruit volunteers for.

University-level Events

Interested in helping the undergraduate and graduate women in engineering committee with some of their events? Please email wie@engsoc.uwaterloo.ca to express interest in volunteering for undergraduate and wiegrad@uwaterloo.ca for graduate committee events.

Join WiE Graduate Committee

The WiE Grad Student Network invites all passionate and motivated individuals to join the Women in Engineering (WiE) Graduate Student Network.

To express your interest, please fill out the form below:

We look forward to your applications and welcoming new members to the team!

Alumni Connections

The Women in Engineering Undergraduate Committee at the University of Waterloo welcomes alumni who want to stay connected and share their experiences with current students. Opportunities for connection include:

  • Participating in panel Q&A events with undergraduate students

  • Sharing your story in a feature on our Instagram page

  • Attending networking dinners such as What's Next, What's Now

  • Supporting mentorship programs with current students

Opportunities vary by term, and we’ll reach out when events align with your interests and availability.

Youth Events

Engineering Outreach recruits volunteers for many youth events throughout the year. Explore the opportunities below to learn how you can get involved:

ONWiE Events

Go ENG Girl

This free outreach event welcomes students in Grades 7–10, including all youth who identify as girls or non-binary, for an engaging introduction to engineering. Participants meet current engineering students, learn about pathways in the field, and take part in a hands-on STEM activity, while parents/guardians attend a campus tour and admissions session.

Held annually in the Fall Term, university student volunteers support this event by serving on a student panel. Panellists briefly share their academic journey and interests, then participate in a Q&A session where youth can ask about courses, student life, and career pathways in engineering. Volunteers from all engineering disciplines and years of study are welcome.

WiE x Catalyst Conference

WiE x Catalyst Conference

This annual overnight conference, held between the Winter and Spring terms, is designed for Grade 11 students who identify as girls or are gender-diverse and are curious about engineering. Participants experience university life through interactive workshops, a hands-on design challenge, and a stay in residence, while building connections in a supportive, girl-focused environment.

University student volunteers play an essential role in making this event a success. Volunteers can sign up for morning and/or afternoon shifts on Saturday and Sunday, with the option to participate in multiple shifts. Roles include supporting registration, assisting with meal set-up and take-down, helping facilitate workshops and the design challenge, mentoring participants, joining social activities, and event photography (camera provided). Volunteers may indicate their role preferences when signing up, and students from any engineering program or year are welcome to participate.

Interested in volunteering?

Sign up for the WiE x Catalyst Conference via our registration form on the Conference Webpage, or email Engineering Outreach at engoutreach@uwaterloo.ca to express interest in our other programs. We generally begin considering volunteers 1-2 months before each event.
