Leadership and Teamwork

This month’s discussion is on Leadership and Teamwork. Navigating working relationships can be one of the most challenging parts of any job, and having the ability to be an effective leader, as well as work well in a team, is a desirable quality in an employee.

Leadership Questions:

  • What qualities and values do you think make for a good leader?

  • What are some qualities you have in yourself that make you a good leader?

  • What are some ways to work on your leadership skills? Which of these are the hardest to develop?

  • Have you ever had to deal with an employee who did not agree with your leadership style? How did you deal with that?

  • Have you ever had a manager who’s leadership style you did not respond well to? How did you deal with that?

  • Talk about the best manager you have worked for, what qualities did they have that made them a good leader?

  • Have you learned any important leadership lessons in your career this far?

  • How do you lead and manage people who are older than you?

  • How do you move into a leadership role from an entry-level position?

  • What are some effective ways you can motivate a team?

Teamwork Questions:

  • How important do you think teamwork is in the workplace or school?

  • What challenges do you face working as part of a team?

  • Reflect on times you’ve had to work as a team throughout your education. How does this compare to teamwork working in industry?

  • How do you learn to build a strong team and quickly identify peoples strengths and weaknesses?

  • What’s the best way to deal with difficult personalities and mediate disagreements?

  • How do you ensure your point is heard in a team environment, such as a meeting?
