Join WiM and WiCS with UW Chess and UW Poker to celebrate International Women’s Day! Did you know only about 5% of professional poker players and 15% of  all the licensed chess players are women?

Come out on March 8th from 4:00-6:00 pm to Up Your Game in poker and chess, and learn how to apply these critical strategies to your life and career.  Faculty, students, staff, postdocs and other members of the university are invited to join. All levels and genders are welcome!

Join WiM and other women-based groups on campus for a fun evening filled with food, games, and bubble tea to celebrate Women's History Month! 

The event is being held in the M3 atrium from 7:00-8:30 pm and is open to all. Register through eventbrite.

What is a better way to celebrate the hard work of the Winter 2023 DRP participants and UW students than a relaxing evening with a campfire, music, and some smores? Moreover, if you are thinking about joining the DRP for the Spring 2023 term, come out to learn more about what the program is about. Please be advised that this event is weather-dependent. We encourage you to bring any lawn chairs or blankets for the grass. Smores will be provided!

Join WiM in celebrating International Women in Math Day with a discussion on "The Social “Threatwork”: Connecting Women's Exclusion from STEM Social Networks to Implicit and Explicit Gender Stereotypes" with Dr. Hilary Bergsieker. 

When, why, and with what effect are women sometimes excluded from informal social networks in STEM fields? Drawing on social identity threat and structural hole theories, a series of studies assess social network dynamics that may limit women's full inclusion in STEM circles. 

Dr. Hilary Bergsieker is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Waterloo, where she leads the Diversity and Intergroup Relations Lab and serves as her department's Program Area Lead for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism.

The Women in Mathematics Committee is hosting a colloquium featuring Dr. Wen-Ching Winnie Li, a legend on the MC fifth-floor board. The title of the talk is "The Ramanujan conjecture: from theory to applications." Faculty members, postdocs, graduate students and upper-year undergraduate students of all genders at the Faculty of Mathematics are welcome to attend.
