Women of Waterloo (WoW)
Women of Waterloo (WoW) is a termly networking event organized by WiM and supported by various campus clubs and committees. In previous terms, we’ve collaborated with FemPhys, Glow Centre, oSTEM, QTPOC KW, WiCS, WiE, WiHc, and WiSTEM. WoW aims to help female and underrepresented gender identity students connect.
Spring 2024
The theme of the Spring 2024 WoW event was Mental Health Awareness and Exam Distress. The event, led by WiM and supported by FemPhys, Glow Centre, WiCS, WiE, WiHC, and WiSTEM, featured a "Mindfulness Kahoot Game" and a Collaborative Art Installation: "Messages of Wellness."
Winter 2024
The first ever Women of Waterloo event was led by WiM and jointly hosted by FemPhys, oSTEM, QTPOC KW, WiCS, WiE, WiHc, and WiSTEM to Celebrate International Women's Day on May 8. Students from all six faculties at the University of Waterloo gathered for an evening of socializing, speed networking, and trivia. There was bingo, photo booths, prizes, and snacks and pizza!
Pizza Piazza
Pizza Piazza is a monthly event organized by the Women in Mathematics Committee and supported by MathSoc for women and gender minority students in the Math Faculty. This event is inspired by the Piazza forum that University of Waterloo students use to have course-related discussions. The goal of Pizza Piazza is to allow students to socialize and meet new friends. Every month, the event focuses on a different topic that aligns with the event's activities. The best part? Delicious pizza and other snacks are available to enjoy while you connect with your peers!
The success of the undergraduate Pizza Piazza events has led to the launch of a Graduate Pizza Piazza in the Fall 2024 term, catering to graduate students and postdocs.
September
The topic for September was "New Beginnings," as we’re starting a new school year. To embrace new beginnings together, WiM hosted a fun seed planting activity.

May
The topic for May was "Celebrating Women in Math." May 12 was International Women in Math Day; students will be colouring images of female mathematicians.
March
The topic for March was "Navigating your co-op experience." Panelists were invited to give talks and advice to students about finding co-op jobs and succeeding in them. Since March 14 is also Pi Day, pie was served to students!
February
The topic for February was "Love for Math." Since Valentine's Day is on February 14, this was a fitting theme, and students got the opportunity to express their love for math through decorating cookies.
January
January was the first month in the Winter 2024 term and the topic was "Study Groups." Students were encouraged to make new friends and form study groups for the term.
