The WCC was well represented at the annual Canadian Writing Centres Association conference which was held virtually from May 25-27, 2022. Members of our team presented on a multitude of topics including Creating an Online Space for Learning Science Communication, English Conversation Circles as a Mediator between the Demands of Course Instructors and Students as Writers, and How and Why Writing Centre Tutors Can Set Healthy Boundaries During the Pandemic and Beyond. 

At the Writing and Communication Centre, we have the privilege of working with undergraduate and graduate students throughout their studies. We see their hard work, their creativity, and their perseverance as they advance through the various stages of their programs. It's incredibly exciting when they reach their goals of completing their degrees and embark on the next stages of their academic and professional journeys.

On June 1, 2022, the WCC’s very own peer tutor, Chris Lawrence, took over the UWaterloo Life Instagram account. Some of you may know Chris from drop-ins and appointments at the WCC, others from our Friday morning Hybrid Writing Cafés.

Chris has been working as a tutor at the WCC for four years, and they are also a PhD candidate in the department of English Language and Literature studying world building in video games.  

The IBPOC Writing and Communication Workshops are spaces where graduate students identifying as Indigenous, Black, and people of color can come together to form a supportive community of writers. This is an intentional IBPOC-only virtual space. Join us on June 23 from 5:30-6:30 pm for our first IBPOC Writing and Communication Workshop, Writing Prompts. The ECC program offers a place to share resources, tell stories, and practice everyday communication. Make new friends and join the conversation at our English Conversation Circles on Fridays from 9:30-10:30 am and Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00 pm.

The WCC will have fewer appointments available for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from June 14 to 16 as some of our staff are attending the Consortium on Graduate Communication conference this week. Drop-in and evening and weekend appointments are still available.

Write together and connect with other grads, post docs, and faculty members at the Hybrid Writing Cafés! Sessions are held online and in the SLC Grad lounge on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and Wednesdays from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
