Liz Newbery

Acting Manager, Undergraduate and Peer Tutor Programs

Liz Newbery has 18 years experience teaching writing at the university level, primarily at the University of Toronto. There she directed a writing centre and developed a variety of writing programs --- among them curricula attuned to academic publishing, sustaining long-term research projects, science writing, graduate school applications, and writing retreats. In her role at the WCC, she oversees the undergraduate and peer tutor programs. Liz thrives on working one-on-one with both new and experienced writers and is especially passionate about supporting writers to develop stronger analytic voices and encouraging them to find more joy or ease in the writing process.

Liz writes in the fields of curriculum theory and cultural studies, and her published work primarily explores how gender, race, class, sexuality, and colonialism complicate learning, particularly in outdoor and experiential education contexts.
