Stephanie Florence (they/them)

Writing and Communication Advisor, Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows
Stephanie Florence has a shaved head with long pink bangs and green eyes. They are wearing a black shirt and are looking into the camera and smiling. They are standing in front of a window and a colourful painting on the wall.

Stephanie is an experienced English tutor and teacher, with a combined history as a successful grant writer, artist, and book editor. They have enjoyed using a social pedagogy method with children, teens, and adults of multi-language families, queer orientation, disability, and neurodivergence. They hold a Master of Fine Art from the University of Waterloo, a Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Arts from the University of Lethbridge, and a Diploma of Fine Art from MacEwan University.

Although their University education has been focused on visual art, Stephanie is an advocate for students who experience discrimination and seeks to form a compassionate and open environment conducive to empowered learning. As a Writing and Communication Advisor, Graduate and Postdoctoral Support, Stephanie engages with students to develop their editing skills and techniques, while emphasizing clarity, organization, and flow. A priority is placed on critical thinking throughout one’s writing to retain the author’s unique “voice”, whether the focus of the session is on research, planning, thesis, dissertation, grant application, scholarship application, or resume. Significantly, Stephanie’s approach to writing, editing, and teaching centers empathy, connection, and laughter. Who says editing cannot be satisfying, productive, and entertaining!
