Stephanie Holko, a Chemical Engineering alumnus from the class of 2004, had the opportunity to embark on a remarkable research journey with a group of women to investigate Norway’s Arctic fjords.

In November of 2022, she joined Sea Women Expeditions which has a mission to explore, document and record the changes occurring in the Arctic due to global warming. Additionally, the organization aims to provide opportunities for leadership development and field experience to Indigenous women, non-Indigenous women, and gender-diverse individuals.

Sea Woman Expeditions, endorsed by the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development collected data on orca behaviour and environmental DNA on this mission to inform further studies on the impact of climate change on Arctic ecosystems.
