The University of Waterloo is celebrating the success of three postdoctoral scholars who have been awarded the prestigious Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship. This fellowship, which provides funding to top postdoctoral applicants, aims to support research that contributes to Canada's economic, social, and research-based growth. Across Canada, 70 researchers will receive $70,000 for two years, with a total of $9.8 million awarded nationally. Dr. Jeff Casello, associate vice-president of graduate studies and postdoctoral affairs, emphasized the importance of the fellowship in supporting transformative research that addresses global challenges.

Among the recipients, Joshua Foo from the Department of Physics and Astronomy will focus on understanding the quantum physics of spacetime, while Ian Roberts, also from the Department of Physics and Astronomy, will study star formation quenching in galaxy clusters. Saraswati Saraswati, from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, will investigate whether rewetting Canada's degraded peatlands can help mitigate climate warming. Their research projects aim to deepen our understanding of fundamental scientific concepts and contribute to solving complex global issues. The University of Waterloo is proud to support these emerging scholars as they continue their research journeys and make significant contributions to their fields.
