Geological Society elects SYDE professor as fellow

Dr. Alexander Wong has been elected as a Fellow of the Geological Society of London, the oldest organization of its kind in the world. Wong, a Professor in the Department of Systems Design Engineering, was elected a Fellow for his research contributions to geological remote sensing and analysis. 

Formed in 1807, the Geological Society has over 12,000 fellows from across the globe. The organization’s guiding aims are: “to improve knowledge and understanding of the Earth, to promote Earth science education and awareness, and to promote professional excellence and ethical standards in the work of Earth scientists, for the public good.”

Dr. Wong’s research in has covered diverse fields, from computational imaging and remote sensing to Artificial Intelligence and multimedia systems. He is the former Canada Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Medical Imaging, a Member of the College of the Royal Society of Canada and co-director of the Vision and Image Processing Lab.
