Building a better future, together

Our world is changing — in so many ways. At the University of Waterloo, we have a history of adapting and innovating for the world’s current needs. Our institution was founded with a game-changing model that integrated work with a traditional post-secondary education. UWaterloo is ready to build a better global future. Recently, our community gathered through multiple events to explore the many ways that technology is changing, and how that might improve lives.

On Tuesday, July 4, University of Waterloo President & Vice-Chancellor Vivek Goel emailed UWaterloo alumni asking them to reflect on the horrific hate-filled attack that occurred on June 28 in Hagey Hall. Dr. Goel shared his shared his appreciation for everyone who has come together to provide support to as our community begins the process of healing.

Waterloo innovators excel at creating technologies that fuel positive change. Delivering high-impact solutions for industry and society is a differentiating strength of our University and a priority of our long-term vision, Waterloo at 100.

Strong relationships with alumni and industry partners enable us to achieve this bold ambition. In support of those relationships, I recently attended the Collision conference in Toronto with University and business leaders, Waterloo graduates and entrepreneurs.

On Wednesday, June 28, an attack targeting our people on the basis of a hateful view of gender expression and identity occurred on our main campus in Hagey Hall during a second-year lecture for Philosophy 202 – Gender Studies.

Nenone Donaldson, Vice President of Advancement addressed University of Waterloo alumni regarding this incidence.
