Oktoberfest recognizes the achievements of local women in KW

At the end of April, we celebrated one of our most prominent champions – Chancellor Dominic Barton – who will conclude his tenure on June 30 after six years of leadership. It was a privilege to bring together so many global change makers to recognize Dominic’s contributions to Waterloo.

Dominic Barton, global business leader, strategic advisor, author and former diplomat, honoured as outgoing two-term chancellor of the University of Waterloo. 

This month, University of Waterloo alumni and supporters have a lot to celebrate! Throughout April, I’m pleased to have many opportunities to recognize and commend those who give back to this community.  

Join us on Wednesday, May 1 to celebrate and connect with your UWaterloo community in Ottawa. Meet new people in your local network, hear from alumni experts and learn what the new chapter has in store.  Alumni, co-op students and friends are welcome!

At the University of Waterloo, we’re fortunate to have many inspiring women among our alumni, faculty, staff and students. On International Women's Day, we recognize their contributions to academia, research and beyond through a series of events and initiatives.

New funding will create scholarships to enable talented Black students to attend Waterloo with significantly reduced financial barriers.

Thanks in large part to our co-op program and the efforts of our alumni and researchers, the University of Waterloo has a strong reputation as a global research-intensive university, renowned for entrepreneurship, innovation and experiential education. 

February is Black History Month. At the University of Waterloo, this is a time to honour the achievements of Black innovators, including UWaterloo alumni, and to refresh our commitment to supporting emerging Black leaders.

Our university community is always looking forward — to the next step in a solution, to a new application for technology, to a brighter future. Recently, I’ve been looking forward to an exciting year ahead.  

We have a lot in store for 2024: institutional changes, new community members and lively festivities.
