Bryan Grimwood.

Bryan Grimwood has been researching and identifying pathways that can be used to disrupt the erasure of Indigenous cultures in tourism.

A study by Luke Potwarka found that cities that want to get the best use of sport facilities built to host novel events – like the Olympics – can leverage voucher programs to entice spectators to try the sport themselves.

Heather Mair was part of a team that examined how the role of sport for rural women helped to meet their physical, mental and social health needs in the face of limited opportunities for networking and socializing.

 

Awards and achievements

Congratulations to:

  • The department, for contributing to another UWaterloo first-place finish in Canada and among the top 25 in the world, in both the QS subject rankings (Hospitality and Leisure Management) and the Shanghai ARWU subject rankings (Hospitality and Tourism). That’s three years running from both firms.
  • Katie Misener and Zara Rafferty, for receiving University of Waterloo Outstanding Performance Awards.
  • Karla Boluk and Corey Johnson, who were selected as The Academy of Leisure Sciences (TALS) Teaching Innovation Award recipients for 2018.
