Canada has officially approved the use of electric planes for pilot training, marking a significant step toward sustainable aviation. This approval is the result of research by the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Aeronautics (WISA), which contributed key data to Transport Canada’s regulatory update. The Pipistrel Velis Electro, the first type-certified electric aircraft for training, is now available for use in Canadian flight schools. It offers zero emissions, quiet operation, and low maintenance. This milestone opens the door for integrating electric planes into pilot training programs, supporting a cleaner, more sustainable future for aviation.
