New executive program with Waterloo Region Health Network helps health care executives navigate ongoing AI transformation

WatSPEED and the Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) have partnered to help health-care leaders better understand and strategically use artificial intelligence (AI) in the health-care system. The collaboration delivered a two-day executive education program designed to equip senior health-care executives with the strategic knowledge and skills needed to lead transformation initiatives involving AI, including operational, clinical, and ethical considerations.

More than 30 health-care leaders participated and gained practical insights into applying AI within hospitals and health systems. The program featured expert sessions from Waterloo faculty and industry advisors covering topics like strategic AI adoption, generative and agentic AI, digital maturity, and leadership for tech-driven change.

This initiative is part of Waterloo’s broader effort to support Canadian health-care organizations as they navigate rapid technological change and integrate AI responsibly, helping to build leadership capacity that bridges research with real-world health-care transformation.
