Our history

Applied Health Sciences Undergraduate Members (AHSUM) was formed in 1995 as an integrated society to represent all the departments within the Faculty of Health (previously Faculty of Applied Health Sciences). We call ourselves the AHSSIES (pronounced 'Aussies', as in people from Australia).

The original AHSSIES logo was created by Matt Clarke and Danny Kirk. In 2007, the logo was updated to still include the AHSSIE kangaroo, but moved to include the AHSUM name in the logo. The logo was then redesigned in 2016 to incorporate the faculty's colour and the maple leaf. The logo was again redesigned in 2018 to showcase a simple, modern look and reflect on AHSUM's evolution.

As of Winter 2021, through student input and feedback, the Executive went to General Meeting for the approval of the society name change, officially changing the name to the Association of Health Students Undergraduate Members to be reflective of the new faculty name change (Faculty of Health).
