Loops That Hold Us is a dialogue about fibre, harm reduction, and community.
Explore a curated collection of 37 pieces that were hand-hooked by members of the Kitchener-Waterloo Rug Hooking Guild (KWRHG) to represent the artwork of Samuel Wiebe (1985 - 2024). These works were created in 2026 to honour his legacy, to bring attention to the epidemic issues in Canada related to mental health, homelessness, and harm reduction, and to support Sanguen Health Centre, whose staff are on the front lines in Waterloo Region and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph.
Each piece is accompanied by an artist statement that also shows the original line drawing that inspired it from Lines That Hold Us, a colouring book created in memory of Wiebe that features his original artwork. All proceeds from sales of this book support Sanguen's Community Van programs, helping provide outreach, harm reduction, and health services to community members in need.

Getting to the Gallery
Navigation and parking information
This exhibit is located in the Grebel Gallery at the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement (The Centre). Located on the fourth floor of Conrad Grebel University College (Grebel), the Centre is accessible by elevator and stairwell.
Parking fees from $3/hour to $10/day apply to the Grebel lot from Monday to Friday between 7:30 am until 7:30 pm. Parking can be purchased through the Honk Mobile app (Zone 9072) or through the Honk QR code (no app needed). The QR code is available at Conrad Grebel University College in the main entrance vestibule or at the reception desk. Parking can also be purchased with cash or credit at Grebel's reception desk.
Planning your visit
The Grebel Gallery is open for viewing during Grebel Building Hours. Please note that all classes and offices affiliated with the University of Waterloo will be closed between Saturday, October 10 to Monday, October 12th for Thanksgiving.
Staff are generally available at the Centre's front desk from Monday to Friday, between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. For a guided tour or group booking, please contact the Centre's Communications Assistant.
