Come race against the clock to find innovative solutions to important problems!

Open to all UW students, regardless of technical background. NO TECHNICAL BACKGROUND REQUIRED!

Rapid version of a hackathon, participants will be teamed up at the event and work together to ideate, research and brainstorm solutions to problems in the domains of climate change adaptation, GHG reduction, and generating climate hope, all in 3-hours.

The objective of the speed hack is for students to:

· Learn skills in ideation and innovation

· Apply their creativity to the campus setting

· Help spark ideas to help UWaterloo address climate adaptation, climate hope, and reduction of GHG’s

Problem Spaces

Climate Adaptation: Tackling how the University can adapt to climate change. How can the University systems and campus space adapt to climate change risks including extreme heat, flooding, and extreme weather. How we can help the campus community adapt to a changing climate.
Reducing GHGs: Tackling how the University reduces contributions to GHGs. How can the University find creative solutions with co-benefits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Largest emitters are transportation and building heating and cooling systems. How can we design the campus to incorporate green infrastructure and sustainable transportation to reduce the environmental load.
Climate Hope: Tackling how the University can create a community of students ready to take on climate challenges with a sense of purpose and hope. How can we leverage social media, student engagement, and climate messaging to increase climate hope on campus.
