Have you ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a contributor to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) research process? How to get involved? What skills are needed? What are the greatest challenges for a researcher? Join us for a panel discussion to explore these questions and ask your own!

The agenda for this meeting includes an overview of the recent World Weather Open Science Conference in Montreal this last August, as well as a discussion about data collection, mining, and management for weather-related research in the social and interdisciplinary sciences.

Are you interested in climate change and international issues? Have you wondered where Canadian climate policy stands in relation to the rest of the world? Join us for a panel discussion reviewing the COP20 United Nations climate negotiations, and looking ahead to the critical negotiations that will take place in Paris in late 2015.

The annual meeting of the Canadian Geophysical Union – Eastern Sections of Hydrology, Biogeosciences, and Earth Surface Processes will be held at Wilfrid Laurier University on Feb. 7th.

The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) is hosting a screening of the 2011 award-winning documentary, The Island President. Focusing on then-president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, the film documents his efforts to confront the issue and effects of climate change on the world stage, driven by the rising sea levels that put the island nation at risk.
David Estrin, CIGI Senior Research Fellow with the International Law Research Program will introduce the film.
Shari Fox Gearheard, an Arctic researcher from the University of Colorado Boulder, will present content from her recent book, "The Meaning of Ice: People and Sea Ice in Three Arctic Communities". IC3 is pleased to welcome Shari (BES '96 MES '98) back to campus.
Under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, countries have been meeting in formal negotiations at least twice each year since 1992. From the outside (and even from the inside!), progress can appear achingly slow at these meetings. Despite this, there have been significant successes, particularly on the issue of adaptation.
The Water Institute Lecture Series continues with Dr. Sheila Olmstead, Associate Professor, Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, The University of Texas at Austin and Visiting Fellow, Resources for the Future.
