Monday, May 6, 2019

Anna Golubeva, a University of Waterloo graduate student from the Faculty of Science, has been awarded the NSERC Gilles Brassard Doctor Prize for Interdisciplinary Research. Awarded to outstanding recipients of an NSERC Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship who best exemplify interdisciplinary research, the award is valued at $10,000.

In her research, Golubeva uses machine learning to explore quantum many-body systems and the interactions between microscopic particles that lead to complex properties of the macroscopic system. By engaging machine learning, Golubeva is working to uncover secrets hidden in quantum many-body systems and to increase the power of the very machine learning techniques she is engaging. Her research is at the cutting edge of modern physics and will have a major impact on the advancement of machine learning.
