Connecting with researchers in Great Bay Estuary, New Hampshire

Friday, October 1, 2021

Following some really interesting talks with Dr. Kalle Matso (Coastal Science Program Manager, Piscataqua Region Estuaries Partnership (PREP); University of New Hampshire) Simon joined the External Expert Panel of a 3 year research project titled Resilience and positive feedbacks: Water quality management & eelgrass health in the Great Bay Estuary, NH/ME. This research addresses many of the same questions we are asking in Atlantic Canada about the health of eelgrass beds.  It is funded by the USA National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to connect hydrodynamics and eelgrass stressors. As well, Simon will serve as an external consultant to PREP.  The real role in all of this is to serve as a conduit for conversation between those of us concerned with estuarine health in the Canadian Maritimes and our colleagues facing similar challenges in the Great Bay Estuary which forms the border between Maine and New Hampshire.
