New funding to develop Sediment MEQ Guidelines in Southern Gulf

Wednesday, December 1, 2021

Congrats Dr. André St-Hilaire (INRS-ETE) on securing funding from Fisheries and Oceans Canada for The development of Marine Environmental Quality guidelines related to sediments in the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence (Canada) estuarine and coastal areas.  This collaboration involving Mike van den Heuvel from UPEI, Simon from UW and Monica Boudreau from DFO-Gulf Fisheries Centre will provide opportunities for 3 PhD students to work in PEI to provide the scientific information needed to develop an MEQ guideline for sediments in estuarine/coastal habitats. This research builds on Canadian Water Network supported research focused on understanding the impacts of sediments and nutrients on fish, invertebrates and eelgrass in the estuaries of the Northumberland Strait region (NorSt-EMP).
