Project:

Impact of Urban Development on Benthic Macroinvertebrates in Urban Rivers and Streams.

Research Interests:

I am interested in understanding what community assemblages in a river can tell us about the state of that river. In my project, I am using benthic macroinvertebrate community assemblages to explore the impact rapid urban development in Kitchener-Waterloo has on the nearby Blair Creek. This will be achieved using a 14-year dataset collected by the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA). I hope to determine if there are any impacts on the communities in this creek and what the assemblages can tell us about these impacts. The results of this study will hopefully inform future city planners and developers on how impacts on urban rivers and streams can be mitigated.
