Dr. Slim Boumaiza received his Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in electrical engineering from the École Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Tunis, Tunis, Tunisia, in 1997, and Master of Science (M.S.) and PhD degrees from the École Polytechnique de Montréal, Canada, in 1999 and 2004.
He joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Waterloo, in 2007, where he is leading the Emerging Radio Systems Group. He served as Assistant Professor with the University of Calgary, Alberta, from 2005 to 2007, then as Adjunct Professor from 2007 to 2010.
His work is focused on the development of high performance (energy-efficient, linear, multi-standard, and multi-band) wireless transmitters. By studying semiconductor devices, high-performance circuits and innovative systems, his research group is working to reduce the carbon footprint of wireless infrastructure, improve the battery life and mobility of mobile devices, and support lighter and smaller solid state power amplifiers (PAs). His approach has been to target key areas of interest based on current and future wireless industry requirements.
Dr. Boumaiza has authored or co-authored over 35 journal articles, more than 90 conference papers, been invited to present over 30 workshops and talks in both academia and industry, and has one patent granted with another six in progress. In the last six years, he has been the recipient of 14 research grants, two equipment/infrastructure grants, and eight industry research contracts, those for which he was principal investigator totaling over $5 million dollars.
