Emilia Pittaway

Biomedical Engineering 2027

Introduce yourself briefly:

Emilia Pittaway

Hi, my name is Emilia Pittaway and I am super excited to be joining the  Engineering Student Ambassadors. I am currently a 1B Biomedical Engineering  student who will be graduating in 2027.

Waterloo Engineering in one word:

Innovative

I choose Waterloo Engineering because:

Waterloo engineering not only provides students with excellent academic  experience, but also allows them to gain valuable work experience. The co-op  aspect of UW is outstanding and I could not turn it down.

The best thing about my program is:

The cool people! Whether it’s my friends I sit beside in class, the TAs that help us  through our assignments, or the professors that are cracking jokes in the middle of  lectures, the UW community is filled with such amazing people.

I wish I had known before I came:

Make sure you keep a balanced lifestyle. It is very easy to direct all your time into  the program but try not to! Take breaks when needed, and don’t be afraid to get  involved with the same extracurriculars that you did in high school.

Outside the classroom, I’m involved with:

Sports! More specifically, I love playing basketball and you will always find me on the St. Jeromes court. I’m also on an Intramural team and I am a member of the  Biomechatronics e-NABLE team.

A fun project I’ve completed:

As a fun side project, I creatively designed a behind-the-ear hearing aid prototype.  Taking my knowledge from our Communications in Biomedical Engineering – Visualization course, I completed this project on SolidWorks with 5 individual  components.

One more thing about me:

I love bubble tea!
