Mechanical Engineering 2024
Rehnuma Tasneem

Hi! My name is Rehnuma Tasneem. I am finishing my 3rd year of Mechanical Engineering and I will be graduating in 2024.

Waterloo Engineering in one word:

Passionate

I choose Waterloo Engineering because:

The co-op program and the opportunities available (both for extracurriculars and career)

The best thing about my program is:

The people in my cohort! I love the sense of support and community I get from my classmates.

About my Co-op experience:

I have worked as a Manufacturing Engineer for my last few co-ops in various industries (electronics, consumer goods etc.) and I have really enjoyed it! My responsibilities ranged from problem solving day-to-day issues on the production line to iterating designs for easy manufacturing. My favourite part of this position is the opportunity to work with many different teams and the dynamic environment.

I wish I had known before I came:

Developing good study skills in high school is very helpful for the transition from highschool to university, especially for 1st year when it can be overwhelming.

Outside the classroom, I’m involved with:

Women in Engineering, UW Formula Motorsports, UW Engineering Ambassadors, and Orientation week

A fun project I’ve completed:

Designing and building a pick and place robot.

I was mainly involved with doing the electrical work for the robot. It was a new and fun experience getting to learn about electrical circuit design and applying that knowledge directly to create a working robot.

One more thing about me:

I love reading so I am always open for a good book recommendation!
