Why does student attention fade? Why do students appear to be more attentive to some instructors? How do our lecturing strategies affect student attention?

In this session we observed two exemplary instructors, Wei-Chau Xie of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Hamid Jahedmotlagh of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, considered the theory of student motivation, and reflected upon our own teaching practice to develop classroom strategies to increase student engagement.
