ENVigorate began as a way to celebrate the Faculty of the Environment at what is often a challenging time of year, nearing the end of the Winter season and approaching final course deadlines. Over the years, the festival has evolved into a 2-3 day festival of celebration, involving local food, speakers from the UW community, skill-sharing sustainability workshops, music, art, academic sharing, and more.
Participation is open to all students, staff, and faculty in Environment!
Our goals
The ENVigorate Festival exists to foster community within the Faculty of Environment, and to unite the faculty around a shared sense of identity. Each year, the ENVigorate Festival seeks to:
- Demonstrate a commitment to local sustainability practices through skill-sharing workshops, presentations, demonstrations by local working groups and a local community organization fair;
- Showcase the accomplishments and research of students from both the undergraduate and graduate levels through student projects, displays, and competitions;
- Foster connections and learning opportunities among undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of local community initiatives/organizations;
- Celebrate the end of term with artistic expressions from in-faculty talent;
- Create a relaxed social and learning environment at a time of high stress for both undergraduate and graduate students; this is important for student mental health;
- Contribute to an ongoing legacy and tradition of the festival, which we hope will continue for many years.
Sustainable Development Goals
We aim to incorporate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the festival, and integrate them into our event series through promoting sustainability, providing educational opportunities, and upholding the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
