3D Printing

3D Printer Access Guidelines

Eligibility

Students: Access limited to Faculty of Environment graduate and undergraduate students for course or research work. For course work, students will need to identify the course the project is for. For research, students will need to provide the name of their supervisor. ETIS may check with the instructor/supervisor before work is initiated.

Faculty and staff: Access is available to Environment staff and faculty in support of course, research, or administrative work.

Booking and Scheduling

Those wanting to use the printers need to schedule a time with an ETIS staff member to review their request. Please submit as much detail as possible about your request via a Jira ticket.  Staff will review your request and contact you to arrange a meeting to discuss your request. Printers are only available during business hours.

All printing must be scheduled in advance. Turnaround times for prints will be based on demand and complexity. Generally, we request at least a week’s notice for jobs, but this depends largely on availability and demand. To improve turnaround time, review this knowledge-base article with your chosen model and submit the Prusa Slicer project along with your ticket.

Materials and Costs

Standard materials are generally provided for free assuming the intended use meets the guidelines above. Large prints, high-volume usage, or specialized materials may incur additional costs which will be discussed beforehand.

Restrictions

All printing services are subject to demand, equipment, and staff availability.

All files to be printed will be reviewed for print feasibility, safety, and compliance with university policies.

Prohibited items include copyrighted or trademarked items being used without permission, or items intended for commercial use.

Staff are not able to design items/models to be printed.

If instructors are planning on doing a large amount of 3D printing for a course, ETIS staff must be informed well before the start of term.

Cricut Cutters

Cricut Cutter Access Guidelines

ETIS has 2 Cricut cutters available for cutting vinyl and other materials. They are available for use in the ETIS studio (please refer to the hours of operation for the studio). Before using them, please review this knowledge-base article on how to use the Cricut cutters. If you require training or support when using the Cricuts, support is available by submitting a Jira ticket. The Cricut cutters are available on a first-come, first-served basis during studio hours only.

Workbenches

Workbench Access Guidelines

Workbenches are available during Studio hours on a first-come, first-served basis. The benches are there to work with the outputs from the 3D printers and Cricut Cutters. No tools or construction activity are allowed in the ETIS Studio.
