Research Clusters in the Faculty of Environment
Responsibilities:
Assistant to the Associate Dean Graduate Studies
The Assistant to the Associate Dean Graduate Studies (Cynthiya Subramaniam):
- will notify Space Captains of the new PhD students coming into their clusters; full-time PhD’s will require a desk;
- will notify all advisors in each research cluster of their incoming masters students. Desks in each cluster should be reserved as flex desks for masters students;
- will notify all advisors and Space Captains of those students in the cluster who are time-extended.
Masters Student Faculty Supervisors
It will be the responsibility of the supervisors to contact their masters students informing them of the space designated to their research cluster and of flex desk locations.
Space Captain of Research Clusters
The Space Captain will be responsible for granting permission for access to the cluster space by all users – students, post-docs, visitors, etc.
- Please use a “Key Access Permission Form to Research Cluster Space (PDF)” available on the Environment website, which will be required by the Dean’s Office for individuals to obtain a key for access to the space.
- Once completed the form can be emailed to the Office & Facilities Coordinator – EV1 347 and a key permit form will be issued, which the User can take to Key Control in the General Services Complex to obtain a key.
The Space Captain will be the first point of contact for resolving issues within the research cluster space, whether they involve other cluster researchers, students, post-doctoral fellows, or visitors. Examples of issues that could arise include:
- students wanting to move to a different space
- student requests for furnishings, etc.
- requests for items needed to redesign space (cubicle walls, white boards, etc.)
Space Captains may need to coordinate with supervisors and Space Captains in other research clusters to resolve space issues.
Research Cluster Users (Students, Visitors, Post-doctoral Students)
Students and visitors will be notified by the Space Captain of their research cluster of the location of their desk (doctoral students, post-docs, visitors), or location of a flex desk (masters students, undergraduate students).
It is the responsibility of the research cluster User to return keys/fobs by the expiry date on their permit. If an extension is required, please have the Space Captain or your Supervisor contact the Assistant to the Associate Dean Grad Studies in advance of the expiry date.
Keys/fobs issued by the Dean’s Office must be returned to the Office and Facilities Coordinator in the Dean’s Office (EV1 347).
