Communications

The Dean's Office communications team can help you spread your message to internal and external audiences.

Get in touch with us to discuss the best strategy for your goals.

Digital screen promotion

We have TV screens in EV1, EV2 and EV3. Send your promotional poster in JPG format 16x9 in dimension to env-comm@uwaterloo.ca with the start date and end date you'd like it to run.

Guidelines

  • Digital signs must be 16x9 in dimension, 1920x1080 pixels and saved as a .jpeg. Tip: You can create the sign on a PowerPoint slide if you don't have access to design software

  • Keep content short! Use titles – no paragraphs – and add a photo

  • Use large text

  • Add the time and place

  • Add a short URL or QR code for more information

Mailing lists

The mailing lists are designed to help the Faculty of Environment community stay informed about academic-related information and are moderated to ensure that only relevant information is sent.

All faculty, students and staff members are automatically subscribed to the mailing list:

There may also be mailing lists specific to your department or school, which you may automatically be a member of. Please contact the administrative manager for your department/school to inquire.

Sending an email to a list

To send an email to the faculty, staff, graduate or undergraduate lists, please follow these formatting rules or your emails will not be distributed.

  • Send from an @uwaterloo.ca email account.
  • Do not use "RE:" or "FW:" in the subject line.
  • Do not include attachments. Put all the relevant information in the body and link externally where possible.
  • Do not send email to mailing lists asking for the email to be distributed.
  • Do not CC: or BCC: when sending messages.
  • Craft a separate email for each list.

Please be aware that if you send an email to the mailing lists, it will be delivered from your email address.

Content

In an effort to reduce the amount of email in our inboxes, only information related to Dean's Office activity is to be sent to the mailing lists. Content must be academic in nature and relevant to the majority of the members of the respective list. However, exceptions can be made in special circumstances. We also encourage you to explore the University and ENV's many other communications channels (e.g., digital signage, social media) to promote activities.

Contact Chantal Vallis, Communications Manager, with questions.

Requesting a new website

Do you need a website? Email env-jira@uwaterloo.ca with the following website details:

  • Site Name (e.g., Faculty of Environment)
  • Site URL (e.g., uwaterloo.ca/environment)
  • Short URL (e.g., uwaterloo.ca/env), which redirects to the site URL.

Social media promotion

We currently manage five main accounts on FacebookInstagramLinkedIn(X) Twitter, and a YouTube Channel. Reach out to Chantal Vallis, Communications Manager, to inquire about adding your news and events to one or more of these channels.
