(1950) - Discourse on Colonialism - Aimé Césaire

Aimé Césaire, a French poet and politician, writes about the lasting and ongoing effects of colonialism and its impact on culture, history, and civilization as a whole. He goes on to question the colonizers and how their narratives have turned people into "barbarians", and as a result they cannot possess a culture or civilization similar to that of imperialists. Colonizers spin the narrative and once reality dawns on them, on the atrocities caused by their own means, they simply apologize and move on. Through all of this, Césaire calls on a change of the entire racist, colonialist system as a means to constructing a new world. As at the crux of it all, the proletariats are the ones who suffer.

Has colonization really placed civilizations in contact? Or, if you prefer, of all the ways of establishing contact, was it the best? I answer no.
