This initiative supports undergraduate STEM students who live at the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and class—particularly those who are racialized, queer, first-generation, and/or otherwise marginalized. While UWaterloo offers support for women in STEM and LGBTQ+ students separately, there is currently a gap in programming that speaks to the overlapping nature of these identities.
Through a series of three student-informed events held across the academic year, the initiative aims to build community, increase visibility, and foster meaningful peer connection while encouraging reflection on the broader systems that shape students’ experiences.
